Supported Units
- Celsius (°C): Celsius is a temperature scale in which 0 degrees represents the freezing point of water and 100 degrees represents its boiling point at standard atmospheric pressure. It was proposed by Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius in 1742 and has since become the most widely used temperature scale in the world. Weather forecasts, cooking instructions, and thermostat settings in most countries use degrees Celsius. Normal human body temperature is approximately 36.5 to 37.5 °C.
- Fahrenheit (°F): Fahrenheit is a temperature scale proposed by German-born physicist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit in 1724. On this scale, water freezes at 32 °F and boils at 212 °F, dividing the range into 180 equal intervals. Today, the United States is one of the few countries that still uses Fahrenheit for everyday purposes, including weather reports, cooking, and home thermostats. The scale places typical ambient temperatures roughly between 0 °F and 100 °F, which some consider a practical range for describing day-to-day weather.
- Kelvin (K): The kelvin is the base unit of thermodynamic temperature in the International System of Units (SI). It is named after the Irish-Scottish physicist William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin, who proposed an absolute temperature scale in 1848. Zero kelvin (−273.15 °C) is absolute zero, the theoretical lowest possible temperature. One kelvin increment is the same magnitude as one degree Celsius, but the scale starts at absolute zero rather than the freezing point of water. Kelvins are widely used in physics, chemistry, astronomy, and in specifying the color temperature of lighting.
