About This Chromatic Tuner

This online chromatic tuner is a free tuning tool that works entirely in your browser. No app download or sign-up required — start tuning right away on your smartphone or computer.

Works with any instrument: Because it uses chromatic (semitone) detection, this tuner is not limited to specific instruments. It works with wind instruments, brass, strings, vocals, and anything that produces a pitched sound.

Two tuning modes: Mic tuning automatically detects pitch using your device's microphone and shows the nearest note name and deviation in real time. Ear tuning plays a reference tone for each note so you can match by ear.

The reference pitch is adjustable from A=430 Hz to 450 Hz, making it suitable for orchestras, concert bands, and other ensembles with different pitch standards. All audio data is processed locally on your device and is never sent to any server.

Chromatic vs. String Tuner

The string instrument tuner is designed specifically for guitars, basses, ukuleles, and other string instruments, with preset note names for each string. It is optimized for tuning one string at a time.

The chromatic tuner detects all semitones and is not limited to any particular instrument. It is ideal for wind instruments, vocal pitch checking, and any instrument not covered by the string tuner. If you are unsure which to use, choose the string tuner for string instruments and the chromatic tuner for everything else.

Supported Environments

Mic tuning requires your browser to have access to your device's microphone. It works on Safari (iOS) and Chrome (Android), among other supported browsers. Ear tuning (reference tone playback) works without microphone permission.
